Reston, Virginia - Bruce Ormond Boston, 85, of Reston, Virginia, died of natural causes Nov. 13, 2025, in Reston, Virginia.

He was born in 1940 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to John and Billie Boston, and lived there through his youth with younger sister, Sally.

Bruce graduated from Muskingum College, and later attended Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned his Ph.D in 1973.

He started his own business, Wordsmith, Inc., in 1977, a writing and editorial consulting company serving clients in the Washington, D.C., area, until retiring in 2005. He was an active member of the St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Reston, played a vital role in the church's growth over the years, and has written several books that reflect his passion for learning and sharing his views on religion and faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his three sons, Aaron (Beth), Nathan and Kyle (Jen); their mother, Sandra; stepdaughter, Jessica (Simon); and nine grandchildren, Julian, Elliot, Katie, Jake, Ben, Bodhi, Finn, Anabel and Sam; as well as sister, Sally Phillips (Ned); and nephew, Dane Phillips (Deborah).

Services will be held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 1700 Wainwright Drive, Reston, VA 20190. They will include a visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, with burial and reception to follow.
