New Castle, PA - Dr. Chester "Chet" J. Chichin, 93, of Neshannock Township, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Yvonne, at his side on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Chichin was born Aug. 30, 1932, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Paul and Mary (Laszczewski) Chichin, and graduated from McKees Rocks High School in 1951.

Following high school, Chet enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Korea, where he served as a dispatcher for the fire department, handling various emergencies.

He earned a bachelor's degree from California University of Pennsylvania and completed graduate work at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the University of Sarasota (Florida) and the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Doctorate Degree in Special Education and dedicated his life to helping children with special needs.

Chet retired from Pittsburgh Public Schools with 36 years of service as a school psychologist. After retirement, he worked in a similar capacity for both the New Castle and Ellwood City school districts.

Chet was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle - St. Camillus Church, where he served as an usher for over 35 years. He was also a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus, Council 512, and a member of the Villa Maria 4th Degree Assembly and its Color Corps.

Chet loved traveling and spending time with both his family and friends.

His beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Yvonne (Vance) Chichin, whom he married May 11, 1986, survives at home.

Chet is also survived by two brothers, Albert Chichin (Alice), McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, and Paul Chichin, Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; and a niece, Dawn Rae, and her daughter, Brianna.

In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Chichin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle, 910 S. Mercer St., New Castle, PA 16101.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Monday (2-9-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A procession will leave the funeral home at noon for a Mass of Christian burial at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Spirit Parish - St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, with Rev. Aaron Kriss as celebrant.

Full military honors will be rendered immediately following Mass by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.
