Dale E. Shaw Obituary

Dale E. Shaw, 97, of New Castle (formerly Ellwood City), passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at home with his family.

Born April 22, 1927, in New Castle, Dale was the son of the late Frank M. and Bertha M. (Patterson) Shaw.

He married the late Donna M. (Neuman) Shaw on July 21, 1950. They were married for 64 years until Donna's passing Jan. 24, 2015.

Dale was a veteran of the Army, serving in Manila between 1946 and 1947.

Dale began his career at U.S. Steel, then Kroger company for 15 years, and ultimately worked for State Farm as an agent for 32 years until his retirement.

Dale was a former active member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the Calvineers. He was currently attending Highland Presbyterian Church in New Castle. He served as an elder at Calvin Presbyterian Church and various other local churches, along with serving the Portersville Christian School as a board member.

Dale was a past member of the Masonic 32nd Degree Shrine Consistory, Pittsburgh, and a Lions Club member.

One of Dale's favorite hobbies was carving and painting wooden decoy ducks and hummingbirds. By any standard, he was extraordinarily accomplished and was locally recognized for his skill in carving, painting and feathering detail.Dale was generous and enjoyed giving the gift of a decoy duck or hummingbird to those he knew would enjoy them.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy L. Shaw of Reading, Pennsylvania; and two sons, Robert E. (Deborah) Shaw of California and Jeffrey A. (Taylor) Shaw of Pittsburgh. He had six nephews, the late Darrel (Joanie) Kennedy of Virginia and Robert (Jane) Kennedy of Butler, the late Gerald (Kathaleen) Robinson of New Castle, the late David (Marty) Robinson of Ohio, Gary Robinson of Sharon and Samuel (Lori) Robinson of South Carolina; and two nieces, Beverly (Don) Horton of Georgia and the late Saundra (Garry) Shields of New Castle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; and two sisters, Olive Garlo Kennedy and Avis Marie Robinson.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Marshall Funeral Home Inc., 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Highland Presbyterian Church in New Castle on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Rich Kinney officiating. Coffee will follow the service at the church.

Interment will follow in Plain Grove Cemetery beginning at 1:30 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland Presbyterian Church in New Castle.
