Donald J. Bromley (Doc) Obituary

New Castle, PA - Donald J. Bromley, 86, of Union Township passed peacefully Monday, May 25, 2026, at Chippewa Celebration Villas.

He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, teacher, coach and friend.

Don, a.k.a. "Doc or DB," was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from New Castle High School in 1957, Don continued his education at Slippery Rock College, earning a teaching degree in science and health.

Mr. Bromley taught science, health and drivers training at Union Area School District for 29 years. During his tenure at Union, Don also loved coaching basketball and golf. He continued the latter for 10 years after retirement.

For 49 years, Don's distinctive voice and unique humor could be heard on Friday nights as the public address announcer for the Union Scotties varsity football games.

Don spent the last 44 years traveling the world with his wife, Barbara J. Anton, whom he married Aug. 24, 1991. Both avid golfers, many of their travels took them to golf courses both in the U.S. and abroad. Don also loved to winter in his North Port, Florida, villa, which allowed him to golf year round with many out-of-town buddies.

Whether in Florida or Pennsylvania, Don could always be counted on to root for the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates sports teams, as he was a lifelong Pittsburgh fan.

He will be sadly missed by his family and the countless friends he made near and far. Don will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh, carefree spirit, humorous jokes, "true stories" and nicknames for everyone he met.

Besides his wife, Barb, survivors include one brother, Arlo (Esther) of Stanford, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Lou (Jerry) Garver of New Castle; one brother-in-law, Edward (Roberta) of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Connie Anton of New Castle, Pennsylvania; 11 nephews and three nieces.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Bromley; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Nancy Bromley; a brother-in-law, Joe Anton; a nephew, Jerry Garver; and great-nephew, Justin Garver.

The family would like to thank Robin Shields, the staff of Chippewa Celebration Villas and Gateway Hospice for all their care and support these past few months.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St, immediately followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery.
