New Castle - Dorothy Evelyn Alexander, age 95, of New Castle passed away the morning of Dec. 11, 2024, at Haven Convalescent Home.

Born July 23, 1929, in Normantown, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Archie R. and Winnie Elizabeth (Sumpter) Mitchell.

She was preceded in death on Sept. 22, 1989, by her husband of 39 years, Donald Jacob Alexander, whom she married July 1, 1950.

Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress. She also was employed as a dental assistant several years ago.

Among her variety of interests, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafts, reading, word circles, and was a member of the hobby of the month club.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna (William) Gallagher of New Castle and Doris (Larry) King of Pataskala, Ohio; two grandchildren, Scott King and Amanda Menefee; and three great-grandchildren, Traiden, Cameron and Owen.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth (Tillie) Mitchell and Ronald (Emmy) Mitchell.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Dr. Abel Robles of Oakpointe Christian Center officiating.

Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.
