Edwin J. Anton, 86, of 613 Boston Ave., died the morning of Feb. 2, 2007, in Jameson Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1920, in Aliquippa, he was a son of the late Joseph and Sophie Boron Anton. He was married to the former Katherine L. Paglia for 59 years. She died in January 2004. Mr. Anton worked for Borden's Ice Cream Co. in Youngstown for 40 years as a truck driver. He also worked for Jameson Hospital as a security guard for five years. A Coast Guard veteran, he served from Feb. 5, 1942, to Sept. 17, 1945, in World War II as a signalman 2nd Class. He was aboard the USS Leonard Wood and participated in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, and drove landing craft during the war. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 377. Mr. Anton enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also liked watching horse racing. He was a member of St. Mary Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J. and Donald Bromley of New Castle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph F. and Connie Anton of New Castle, and Edward and Roberta Anton of West Middlesex; a sister, Edith Frankovich of New Castle; five grandsons; and three great-grandsons. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Anton, and a great-granddaughter, Emma Katherine Anton. Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon today at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St. A blessing service is noon today at the funeral home with the committal immediately following. The Rev. John Petrarulo, pastor of St. Vitus Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna Cemetery.
