New Castle, PA - Elizabeth J. Horney, 93, of 3410 West Pittsburg Road, passed away the evening of Jan. 4, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Elizabeth was born June 5, 1932, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Fannie (Joseph) Deep. She was married to the late Edward Horney. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2017. They were married for 62 years. Elizabeth was of the Orthodox faith and attended St. Elias Orthodox Church. She was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1950.

Mrs. Horney retired at the age of 78 and after 48 years of service as a cashier at Dave's Market on the South Side. Her family was her No. 1 priority. She enjoyed doing her scratch-off tickets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Tom) Brown of New Castle; two grandsons, Nicholas Brown, his girlfriend Zhonna and Andrew Brown; and one great-grandchild, Grayson Brown.

In addition to her parents and husband Edward, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her three brothers, James Deep, Sam Deep, Monney Deep; and four sisters, Lilly Apecella, Frances Klush, Anne Deep, and Della Moses.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Elias Orthodox Church, 915 Lynn Street, New Castle, PA, 16101

A funeral service will immediately follow visitation in the church. The Very Rev. Kevin G. Long, pastor of St. Elias Orthodox Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Online condolences may be viewed or offered by visiting www.nogafuneralhome.com
