Enrico H. "Henry the Barber" Giammatteo, 80, of 813 Dushane St. died the morning of Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, in Jameson Hospital. He was born May 12, 1926, in S. Demetrio Ne' Vestini, L'Aquila, Italy, a son of Alphonso and Assunta Mariana Giammatteo. His parents preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth DeMatto Tuminello Giammatteo on July 16, 1983. She survives. Mr. Giammatteo was owner and operator of Henry's Barber Shop in New Castle, retiring after 45 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in a M.A.S.H. unit in Korea. Mr. Giammatteo enjoyed golfing and gardening, and was especially proud of his tomatoes. He was a member of St. Vitus Church and sang in the church choir. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Alphonso and Joyce Giammatteo, and Anthony and Tina Giammatteo, all of New Castle; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ophelia Antonini Giammatteo; his son, Joseph Giammatteo; and his sister, Letizia Ulizio. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. A blessing service will be conducted at noon Wednesday at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. John Petrarulo of St. Vitus Church will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
