New Castle, PA - Erma Jean Freed, 95 of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 13, 2026, at Quality of Life Services in New Castle.

Born on June 10, 1931, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Michael and Katheryn Phillips. She married George A. Freed on Dec. 23, 1948, who preceded her in death in 2014.

She was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in creating a warm, welcoming home where family and friends always felt loved, and she delighted in entertaining guests.

She attended First Assembly of God Church and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher, finding fulfillment in sharing God's love and teaching His word.

Jean is survived by two sons, attorney George M. (Karen) Freed of Utah and Robert S. (Jennifer) Freed of Poland, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Peggy Freed-Kerr of New Castle, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard D. Freed.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steve DeSantis officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Cemetery.
