New Castle, PA - Ernest S. Toth, age 87, of New Castle, passed away the evening of April 2, 2026, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Born Dec. 6, 1938, in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Stephen and Anna (Strzulla) Toth.

Ernest was preceded in death July 2, 2002, by his beloved wife of 45 years, Aretta (Riley) Toth, whom he married Feb. 22, 1957.

Mr. Toth served his country in the U.S. Army and was employed for 45 years with Youngstown Hard Chrome as a truck driver.

He not only enjoyed hunting, but also was an avid race car driver for over 30 years at several local dirt tracks.

He is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Jacob) Heinz of Graford, Texas; one son, Stephen (Tabatha) Toth of New Castle; one granddaughter, Alexis Toth; two stepgrandchildren, Kyle Montgomery and Kallyon Montgomery; a niece, Ann Ellis; a nephew, Chris Gilboy; and his companion of nine years, Dorothy McCullough.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julie Gilboy.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Beck officiating.

Ernest will be laid to rest beside his wife in St. Agatha Cemetery in Ellwood City.
