New Castle, Pennsylvania - Ernestine Akins, 64, of 1015 Beech St., New Castle, passed away the evening of Dec. 12, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Ernestine was born Oct. 14, 1957, in New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Mae Frances (Threats) Akins.

Ms. Akins was a graduate of New Castle High School, class of 1975.

Ms. Akins will be remembered by her family as a loving, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.

She enjoyed arts and crafts. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Tieria R. (Virgil) Johnson of Albany, Georgia; brother, Mazzio L. Akins of Houston, Texas; four loving grandchildren, Kyeren Johnson of Albany, Georgia, Nevaeh Johnson of South Carolina, Kyleah Johnson of Albany, Georgia, and Slade Johnson of Albany, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by three brothers, George Threats, Morrison Akins, and Nathaniel Akins; three sisters, Mary J. Fears-Doss, Jacqueline Akins and Maxine Akins; and her uncle, Rev. Elder Shepherd Threats.

The family will receive family and friends for a celebration of life service from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at the Noga Funeral Home Inc.
