Evelyn LaVerne Garretson, 92, formerly of Hollow Road, died Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Haven Convalescent Home in New Castle.

Born Feb. 25, 1927, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Elza and Rachael (Berkebile) Nycum. She was married to the late Walter E. Garretson, who died Nov. 19, 2012.

Mrs. Garretson was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Johnstown and Ellwood City for a number of years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed traveling and living in Florida for the winter. She also loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Ginger L. Stoner and her husband, Donald, of New Castle, Jay H. Garretson and his wife, Elaine, of Warren, Ohio, and Laura L. Adams and her husband, Ron, of New Castle; one brother, Mickey Little of Goodyear, Arizona; one sister, Rita Zeigler of Stow, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary G. Garretson, and her stepmother, Bertha Marie Nycum.

Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 6, 2019, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave.

Funeral services will be noon Monday at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jeff Mackay of Harmony Baptist Church will be officiating.

Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery.
