Garrie Lynn Wimer Obituary
Garrie Lynn Wimer passed away peacefully after a brief illness with his family at side at UPMC Jameson on Oct. 27, 2021, at 12:55 p.m. He was 64 years young.
Garrie was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to Stanley and Helen (Black) Wimer on Sept. 6, 1957. He grew up in Volant, Pennsylvania, and attended Wilmington Area School District, where he graduated in 1975.
Lynnie, as he was fondly referred to as by his wife, married Kathleen (Yodz) Wimer on Oct. 29, 1983. They would have celebrated 38 years of marriage this year. When asked how long the two of them had been married, he would always jokingly tell people, "since '83." They made their home in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. Together, they had a son, Kyle, born in 1992.
Garrie worked at Sharon Steel from 1978 until 1992. He then returned to school to become an electrician. He graduated from ETI in 1994 with an associate degree in electronic technology. He worked at Dick's TV in Sharon, Pennsylvania, from 1994 to 1995. He then went on to work at Winner Steel, now Sharon Coating LLC, where he served as the electrical supervisor from 1995 until October 2021.
Garrie enjoyed being in the outdoors. He was a fan of deer hunting. He loved archery, rifle and muzzleloader season.
Along with hunting, Garrie loved gardening. He always enjoyed growing his own fruits and vegetables, specifically hot peppers, and he would share his harvest with family and friends.
Zeke, as he was lovingly referred to by loved ones, enjoyed playing cards with his family. He was an avid Euchre player and loved playing the game at family outings. He always knew how to win, no matter the circumstances.
He was a man of many trades. You could always find him tinkering around the house or garage working on something. Garrie would always try to fix something himself before asking for help from others.
Garrie also loved watching his son, Kyle, play sports and enjoyed his years of coaching Little League Baseball.
Garrie was a man of strong faith. He regularly attended the Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex, where he served as an elder for 10 years and a member of the Men's Group and was the Tech Team Mobilizer for 14 years. He was a devoted worshipper of his God and loved his Scripture and Bible.
Garrie is survived by his wife, who remains at home; his son, Kyle, and wife, Amanda (Quarterson) also of West Middlesex; a sister, Patricia (Dean) Gerber of Plain Grove, Pennsylvania; and a brother, Larry, of New Castle, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his first granddaughter, Ayla Wimer, whom he loved and enjoyed dearly.
Garrie will always be remembered for his gentle demeanor. He was a man of very few words, but knew how to brighten everyone's day. Known also as "Gare Bear," he was a giant teddy bear and was easy to get along with. He always greeted people with a smile and was a fun-loving person to be around.
He was a loving husband, caring father and proud new grandfather. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be from noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 2, 2021, at Smith's Funeral Home at West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 3, 2021, at The Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex. Memorial contributions may be made to The Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex.
