Gayle Ann Alden, 79, of Union Township passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2017, in her residence.
Mrs. Alden was born June 27, 1938, in Philo, Illinois, a daughter of the late William and Anna Scherick O'Neill.
She was raised in Philo. After graduating from high school, she attended courses at the local beauty school, where she earned a certification in cosmetology.
A homemaker for many years, Gayle dedicated her life to her family and raising her five children.
She was of the Catholic faith.
An accomplished seamstress, Gayle also enjoyed building miniature doll houses. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Her husband, George Alden, whom she married Aug. 20, 1956, passed away Dec. 12, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa A. Costa, with whom she made her home, and Marcie E. Schnur and her husband, Joseph, of Butler; three sons, Larry A. Alden, with whom she made her home, Dr. Michael Alden and his wife, Melissa, of Summerville, S.C., and Samuel J. Alden and his wife, Rachielle, of New Castle; a sister, Sue (Ted) Mullet, of Michigan; and 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gayle was preceded in death by a brother, Terry O'Neill.
There will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be held by the family.
Entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Castle.
