George Alick Sr., 85, of 3105 New Butler Road died unexpectedly the morning of Feb. 6, 2007, in Jameson Hospital. Born June 29, 1921, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary Cocic Alick. His parents emigrated from Primisijic, Yugoslavia. He was married to the former Jennie Bacuhn. She survives. Mr. Alick was a self-employed plumbing/heating and air conditioning contractor. He attended schools in the Union Area School District. A decorated war veteran, he served with the Army Signal Corps during World War II in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Alick was a member of the VFW post in Chester, W.Va. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, raising homing pigeons and horse racing. In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Judith and Greg Keller of the Morrison area of Denver, Susan A. and John Biberich of Grove City, Linda J. and Greg Huckle of Gunnison, Colo., and Ruby M. Alick of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, George Alick Jr. of New Castle; two sisters, Nancy Spinelli of New Castle and Martha Cifra Jones of Glendora, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred Bongivengo, Anna Zajac, Helen Rainey and Ruby Lobaza; and a brother, Michael Alick. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. A service will be conducted at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard. Condolences may be e-mailed to McGonigleFuneralHome@verizon.net.
