Gus  Pappas
Gus Pappas, 86, of Union Township passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, at Quality of Life Services, New Castle.
Mr. Pappas was born on March 30, 1933, in New Castle, a son of the late George and Georgia (Barbush) Pappas.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from New Castle High School in 1951.
Gus proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Honorably discharged as Air Man 1st Class, he was stationed in Germany and awarded the following citations: German Occupation Medal, National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1982, Gus retired from the Pentex Foundry, formerly the Crane Co., of New Castle, where he worked in the core room for more than 25 years.
He enjoyed watching television, playing the lottery and spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Gus is survived by his beloved fiancee, June Lingenfelter, with whom he made his home for the last 32 years; a brother, Andrew (Connie) Pappas of New Castle; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Joseph and James Pappas; and three sisters, Tina DeThomas, Katherine Mastren and Helen Copple.
In keeping with his wishes, all services were held privately.
Interment was in Oak Park Cemetery, Neshannock Township.
Arrangements were entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
