Lebanon, Connecticut - Harry Edward Marcus, fondly known as "Bud," passed away at his home in Lebanon, on July 31, 2025, with his beloved wife and daughters attentively by his side. Bud was 78 years old. He was born on Jan. 22, 1947, in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Opal (Miller) Marcus.
Bud was a proud veteran, having retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 1965 to 1985 as a mechanical technician and then a corrections specialist. While on active duty, Bud was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Fourth Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Battle "E" Award.
In 1978, Bud married the love of his life, Laura Chappel. The couple settled in Lebanon where they built their home and raised their family. Together they began a life filled with family and love.
Bud later retired from UPS after working for 19 years as a machine mechanic. Bud enjoyed dancing with his wife at the Willimantic Elks Club, camping in New Hampshire with family, as well as frequent visits to his hometown and family in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was a talented woodworker and loved building custom furniture by hand. Bud loved raising chickens and outdoor gardening. He was proud of his home and entertained people there often. He was a man of his faith and was always there to help anyone in need.
Bud will be remembered as a hard-working family man who left an example of devotion to God, family and country. He will be sadly missed, but always remembered with love by his wife of 47 years, Laura; his daughters, Tracie (Steve) Martin, Lisa Minor; sister Kathy (Bob) Kendrick; grandchildren, Meagan, Breana (Saige), Elyssa, Tyler, Brian Jr., Hailey, Gracie, Gabriella, Jacob, William; great grandchildren, Caleb, Emberlee; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Marcus.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to HHC Hospice and Assisted Living Services, Inc. teams for their compassionate care and support during Bud's final months.
Funeral services will be held from the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, beginning with calling hours on Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held the following morning at 10 a.m. directly at the First Baptist Church of Lebanon, 694 Trumbull Highway, Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to www.autismspeaks.org.
