Helen J. Adolphsen, 84, of Youngstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, in Northside Hospital, Youngstown. She was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Carnegie, Pa., the daughter of Adolph and Marcella Matuszewski Janc and had been a resident of Youngstown since 1992. After graduating as valedictorian of Princeton High School, she joined the Women's Army Corps during World War II before honorably discharged. She worked nine years as a teller for Peoples Bank in New Castle before marrying her husband, Albert Adolphsen, on Jan. 3, 1954, and moving to Ashtabula, Ohio. A member of First Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed gardening and sewing. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her survivors include two sons, Arthur Adolphsen of Youngstown and Chris Adolphsen, doctor of physics at Stanford University, of Menlo Park, Calif.; one grandson, Jacob; and her sister, Eugenia "Jean" Burd of Ashtabula. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1986; and two brothers, Chester and Richard Jance. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at the Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. The Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Long, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, Ohio. Visitation will be observed from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
