Isabelle L. Alford, 97, of Harbor-Edinburg Road, Edinburg, died the morning of July 21, 2006, at Jameson Hospital. Born June 16, 1909, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late James G. and Dessie McChesney Leslie. She was married to F. Paul Alford, who died on March 12, 1989. Mrs. Alford worked as a bookkeeper for 18 years at the former First National Bank of Lawrence County and 11 years as secretary for the YWCA in New Castle. She was a member of WIMODAUSIS. Mrs. Alford was a member of Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn F. Starkey of Edinburg; a son, John G. Alford of Camp Hill, Pa.; and three grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. There are no calling hours. A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Turner-Myers Funeral Home, 208 N. Jefferson St. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church.
