New Castle - James J. Napier Sr., 76, of West Washington Street was called home to glory on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

Born Jan. 22, 1949, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, he is the son of the late James A. and Caroline (Johnson) Napier.

He was also preceded in death by one son, DeVaughn Napier; one brother, Henry Napier; two sisters, Doretha Napier Moore and Frances Napier; and a great-grandson, Damien Jackson. He is survived by a loving wife, Nancy (Hayes) Napier, with whom he shared a fruitful life since 1964. He is also survived by four children, Erick Napier and his wife, Lisa Gomez Napier, of Mesa, Arizona, Clarissa Napier of New Castle, Pennsylvania, James J. Napier Jr., of Sharon, Pennsylvania, and Caroline Poland of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, who all adored him.

James was a member of the New Grace Missionary Baptist Church, and he loved the Lord.

He worked as an inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 20 years. Prior to that, he was a butcher for a number of years and worked as a janitor at Slippery Rock University while he earned his bachelor's degree in business.

He was a true outdoors man. He loved nature and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, learning and teaching, and passed all his passion onto his on coming generations.

James was an amazing father and grandfather, a loving family man who paved the way for so many people in his life. He will truly be missed.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. Funeral services will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Reverend Frank Christian and Reverend Sam Holmes Jr. will officiate.
