New Castle - Joan Hanna, 87, of Savannah Road, died Friday, July 3, 2026, at her residence in New Castle.

She was born Nov. 10, 1939, in Liverpool, England, a daughter of the late George and Matilda (Saunders) Lawson.

Mrs. Hanna was married to the late John E. "Cap" Hanna, who died Oct. 16, 2017.

Joan worked at Hillview Manor Nursing Home, Golden Hill Nursing Home, Haven Nursing Home and Shenango on the Green as a RN.

She loved to go to the casino and gamble, and she also enjoyed crocheting. Above all, she loved her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Scott R. Hanna and his wife, Brenda, of Edinburg, and Jonathan M. Hanna and his wife, Debbie, of New Castle; her granddaughter that she raised, Jessica Hanna; a number of grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; one brother, George Lawson; and one sister, Doreen Ross.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Curtis G. Hanna; and two sisters, Rosemarie Beglin and Mary Vaughn.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. A funeral service will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate.
