Joan Snyder, 89, of West Pittsburg passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at Haven Convalescent Nursing Home, New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Born June 18, 1935, in West Pittsburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Mae Valentine Schultz.

She married Thomas E. Snyder on June 20, 1959. They were married for 56 years when he passed away March 5, 2016.

Joan was a member of the former Holy Cross Church, now Holy Spirit Parish.

She was an employee of the Chamber of Commerce in Phoenix, Arizona, and upon her return to New Castle, Western Union, where she met her future husband, Tom.

Joan was an avid and accomplished storyteller and enjoyed reading. She also loved listening to music, dancing, fishing, working on crossword puzzles and was fond of animals.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. Above all, she cherished moments spent with her family.

Survivors include daughters, Theresa (Vincent) Russo of New Castle, Kathleen (Jay) Audino of New Castle and Amy Jones of West Pittsburg; grandchildren, Danielle Pozzuto, Leah Scialabba, Thomas Russo, Margret-Rose Russo, Christopher Gabriel, Michael Gabriel, Patrick Mastrangelo and Heather Mastrangelo; one brother, James R. (Jane) Schultz of New Castle; and sister-in-law, Ann Schultz of New Castle; as well as five great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Schultz.

Private family viewing with a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, with Deacon John Carran and Pastor Matthew Bupp officiating at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
