New Castle, PA - John L. Grieve, 101, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025.
He was born June 22, 1924, to Albert Victor Grieve and Marian Rose Spurk Grieve.
John married the former Shirley Owens on June 15, 1946, and was happily married for 69 years until her death.
After graduating from New Castle High School in June 1942, he attended Penn State University.
He enlisted in the Army Air Forces and flew as a B-24 radar-navigator during WWII.
John was employed at Penn Power and Ohio Edison for 42 years. During this time, he attended University of Michigan and received a certification in electrical engineering from I.C.S.
John served on the boards of the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society. He was a former member of New Castle Lions' Club and a charter member of Toastmasters Club.
A longtime elder and member of Second United Presbyterian Church, he was currently a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his son, John Charles Grieve.
He is survived by a son, Timothy Paul (Susan) Grieve of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Susan Lorraine (Bob) Churchill of New Castle; four grandchildren, Ian (Star) Grieve, Laural (Andy) Skiendzielewski, Carolyn (Waylon) Longino and Aaron (Alicia) Churchill; and six great-grandchildren.
A private family service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. Donald Aull.
