John Nathan "Muggs" Knight, Jr., 87, of Hermitage and formerly of West Middlesex passed away at his residence at 2:38 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018.

He was born in New Castle on Jan. 12, 1931, to John Nathan and Verna Fairbanks Knight.

He married Shirley Jean McEachern on April 25, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2016.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1948 through 1951.

He had worked for the Westinghouse Corp. in Sharon and later retired from Sharon Steel as an electrician.

"Muggs" at one time served as assistant fire chief for the West Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of Hebron Lodge of West Middlesex and enjoyed bowling, traveling to Florida with his wife and watching his grandchildren play sports.

He affectionately called his wife "Lucy." His grandchildren affectionately called their grandfather "Turkey Chicken."

Survivors include two sons, Richard "Rick" L. (Betty) Knight of Kittanning, Pa., and John N. "Jack" (Lorraine) Knight III of Sharon; three sisters, Marge Buchanan of New Castle, Grace Savioli of Hermitage and Diane Brown of New Castle; six grandchildren, Samantha Prowitt, Danielle Knight, Danielle "Nellie" Sumy and Ryan, Randy and Jeff Knight; seven great-grandchildren, Grace and Chloe Prowitt, Austin and Dakota Mack, Ethan and Aidan Kirkpatrick, and Blaze Knight.

He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Wendy, in 2006; brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Maude White and Betty Watters.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at the Smith Funeral Home, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex, Pa., with Pastor Michael Lozano of Christ Lutheran Church presiding. Family will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Morefield Cemetery.
