Karl Lynn Walter., 72, of Walters Lane, New Castle, passed away at his residence on Friday morning, Oct. 28, 2022.

He was born in New Castle on Nov. 8, 1949, to the late Rudy and Doris Shingledecker Walter.

He married Marilyn Kay McCandless on Nov. 14, 1969.

Karl was a graduate of New Castle High School in the class of 1967.

Over the course of his life, he worked in various areas of farming and construction that included building, excavating and trucking. At a young age, Karl dreamed of taking over his family's farm. He was proud to honor the legacy, raising his own family on land occupied by generations before him, surrounded by animals and wooded views rich with history.

He also loved spending time with his family and friends at their cabin in Sterling Run, Pennsylvania, and considered it his second home.

Karl made everyone who walked through the door of his shop feel like they belonged. He could often be found regaling family and friends with his masterful storytelling, sharing tales from a life well-lived over a drink or a game of thirty-one.

Karl could be stoic, but his kind heart, generosity and warmth for his loved ones was felt far and wide. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Karl is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter, Misty Lyn (Merle) Cunningham of New Castle; a son, Robert Joseph (Kendra) Walter of Ypsilanti, Michigan; a grandson, Jesse Karl Cunningham; and an uncle, John Shingledecker.

There will be an informal gathering from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at The Plain Grove Presbyterian Church.

The service at 3 p.m. will be officiated by Rev. Christina Hosler, pastor of the church.

Interment will follow at South Plain Grove Cemetery.
