Kenneth E. Bailey Obituary
Grove City - Kenneth E. Bailey, 85, died May 23 after a short illness. Born November 24, 1930 in Bloomington, Illinois he was the son of Ewing and Annette Bailey, missionaries in Egypt for 40 years. He graduated from Monmouth College, Illinois, Pittsburgh Seminary, and earned his doctorate from Concordia Seminary, Missouri. In 1952 he married Ethel Milligan, his wife of 64 years. As a missionary of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Bailey taught in the Middle East for 40 years in Egypt, Beirut, Jerusalem and Cyprus. He was a well-known scholar, author, professor and lecturer particularly on the cultural background of the New Testament.
Dr. Bailey was preceded in death by a son, David Mark. In addition to his wife, Ethel, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Makari (Victor), daughter-in-law Leslie Bailey, grandchildren Kelcey and Cameron, and a brother James Bailey (Barbara) of Tampa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Market Street, Mercer, PA 16137 at 1:00 pm. Friends may greet the family before and after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 East Market Street, Mercer, PA 16137, designated for the Foundation for Middle Eastern New Testament Studies (FoMENTS) established by Dr. Bailey.
