New Castle, PA - Larry E. Shaffer, 83, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 11, 2026, at UPMC Jameson.

Larry was born on June 17, 1943, in New Castle, to the late Russell and Betty Johnston Shaffer.

Mr. Shaffer was the owner of Shaffer Tree Services for 50 years. He attended Laurel High School. Larry was a member of the Mahoning New Castle Lodge No. 243, as well as a member of the Castle Pistol Club. Larry was also an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast. Growing up, he attended Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Shaffer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and John Ciallella, of Findlay, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sara Shaffer, of Hill City, South Dakota; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shella and Robert Fry, of Boardman, Ohio, Carol and Curtis Wertz, of New Castle; three grandchildren, Mia Ciallella, Olivia and Henry Shaffer and former spouse, Irene Owens Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Joanne Shaffer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4 p.m. Rev. Jordan Rimmer will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, 628 Pearson Mill Road, New Castle, PA 16101.
