New Wilmington - Lavon A. Rogers of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, formerly of New Bedford, Pennsylvania, passed away at John 23rd Home, Hermitage, Pennsylvania, on the morning of April 2, 2026. She was 99 years old.

She was born Dec. 21, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Harold J. and Amy Alice (Chapman) Smith.

She married A. Dale Rogers on Feb. 14, 1947. He preceded her in death Sept. 25, 1992.

Lavon was an active member of the New Bedford Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and member of the Lydia and Hannah Circles and was secretary for three years.

Lavon was a member of the New Bedford Domestic Science Club, the Hearts and Diamonds Bridge Club and the Parkstown Bowling League. For many years she sang in the New Castle Music Club's presentation of "The Messiah."

She worked for Truscon Mfg., a division of Republic Steel Corp. in Youngstown, as a cashier clerk.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (George) Shaffer of New Wilmington; a son, Dale (Criss) Rogers of Hudson, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kristen (Adam) Piccirillo, James (Ann MacNamara) Rogers, Samuel (Emily Chumbler) Rogers and Logan List; and three great granddaughters, Adleigh Piccirillo, Ada Rogers and Joan Rogers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert H. Rogers; three brothers, Raymond J., Fred R. and Roderick Smith; and three sisters, Audrey White, Sally Yavorski and Carolyn Sanders.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the New Bedford church with Pastor Rebecca Rosengarth officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Bedford, Pennsylvania.
