Lillian Sara Bicker Locke Obituary
Lillian Sara Bicker Locke of Harlansburg, Pa., passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018. She was 97.
She was born in West Winfield, Butler County, on July 17, 1920, to the late Elmer E. and Florence Westerman Bicker.
She graduated from Cabot High School in 1938.
On July 5, 1941, Lillian married David Hollis Locke. In the earlier years of their marriage, Lillian and David moved to a family land grant property, where she worked diligently cleaning and restoring the farm house great-great grandfather William Locke had built in 1812.
David did engineering consulting work on four continents, and Lillian accompanied him, creating a home for them no matter where in the world they traveled.
She and her husband enjoyed ice dancing and were members of the Pittsburgh Figure Skating Club. They were also excellent ballroom dancers.
She was by his side up until his death on Oct. 20, 2007.
In addition to her career as a homemaker, Lillian had her own career. She attended business school in Pittsburgh and took classes at Penn State University. She was a bookkeeper by trade, having worked at Production Credit in Butler, which is where she met her husband.
She also worked at the Shenango Valley Transit Authority, the New Castle Business College and WKST Radio.
She was a 50-year member of the Liberty Grange 1780 in Scott Township and was a member of the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, since her marriage in 1941.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel A. Locke II and Nancy J. Locke of New Castle, and grandson, Samuel A. Locke III.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Olive Kennedy, Elsie Walters and Grace Markovich, and brother, Richard E. Bicker.
Funeral services will be held at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Stanley Keehlwetter, pastor of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, presiding. Family will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m.
Interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery.
