Portersville - Margaret "Peg" Jane Stickel, 93, of Portersville, Pennsylvania, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Slippery Rock Borough, Butler County, Pennsylvania, to Edward Halley Sickle and Mary Jane Rubright Sickle.

"Peg" graduated in 1949 from Slippery Rock High School and later attended Business Training College, now called Point Park University, in Pittsburgh. She graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College, now called Slippery Rock University, where she received her teacher's certification.

"Peg" married Arthur Clayton "Art" Stickel on Aug. 1, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1999.

Peg retired in 1993 as a fourth grade elementary school teacher working at Mercer Elementary School.

She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville. She organized trips for the Keenagers, where she remained active.

She remained in contact with many of her former students through social media.

Survivors include daughters, Kim (Robert) Dempsey of Portersville and Cindy (Al) Mittiga of Rose Hill, North Carolina; son-in-law, James Jansce of Portersville; brother, David E. Sickle of Sunbury, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sally Jansce; stepfather, S. Howard Burnside (1979); and brother, Richard E. Sickle (1993).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, PA, with Rev. Dana Opp, pastor of the church, presiding. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville. Interment will be in Portersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Keenagers or the Portersville Foot Pantry.
