New Castle, PA - Mark Shenkan, a beloved brother and member of the Jewish communities in New Castle and Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully May 5, 2025.

He will be lovingly remembered and survived by his parents, Sidney and Virginia; sister, Sara (Aaron); and his brothers, Ed (Amy) and Richard (Kim); nieces and nephews.

A proud graduate of Neshannock High School and the University of Pittsburgh, Mark was active in the AEPi fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships and deepened his connection to Jewish life on campus.

Mark was known for his warmth, thoughtfulness, and the joy he brought to those around him. He never missed a birthday or celebration, and his presence enriched every family gathering.

An avid photographer, Mark was deeply honored when one of his photographs was selected for display in the Pennsylvania Capitol building in Harrisburg.

He also found meaning in civic life and enjoyed corresponding with public leaders. Over the years, he received personal letters from dignitaries including President Ronald Reagan, Vice President George Bush, Gov. Dick Thornburgh, United States Sen. John Heinz and United States Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

The funeral service will be held at at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 1501 Anderson Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15209.
