Mary M. "Minnie" Allen, 93, formerly of Coolidge Street, passed away the evening of Nov. 1, 2015, at her residence in New Castle. Born on June 26, 1922, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Philomena Fragola Genareo. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Oliver Price, Samuel Gilson and Ralph Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Oliver Price, Samuel Gilson and Ralph Allen. Mary worked as a licensed practical nurse and worked for various nursing homes. After 14 years of working, she retired from the Villa Maria Community Center in New Bedford. She was a member of Independent Methodist Church. Known as the baker of the family, Mary loved cooking and baking, especially helping to make cookies for all of the family weddings, graduations, showers or anyone who asked for her help. She also enjoyed gardening. Mary will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was also the family caregiver and was very giving of her time. Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law, Michelle Gilson of Ellwood City; stepsons, Ralph Lee Allen and Wayne Allen, both of New Castle; grandsons, Christopher Gilson, Frank Gilson, David Gilson, Ronald Gilson and Logan McDonald; and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sons, John R. Gilson, Samuel Gilson and Frank Gilson; sister, Lucille Magno; brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Sam, Carmen, Angelo and Ralph Genareo. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Frederick Gilbert of Independent Methodist Church.
