Mary Louise Ireland of Valley View Drive, New Wilmington, PA (Wilmington Township, Mercer County) passed away at her residence on July 6, 2016. She was 93 years old.

A daughter of Dr. Ralston O. Gettemy and Mrs. Margaret Yarnall Gettemy, she was born on May 17, 1923 in Altoona, PA. She was married on July 30, 1948 to Dr. Graham M. Ireland who preceded her in death on December 10, 1994.

She was a member of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a trustee, deacon and elder. She also sang in the church choir, played in the hand bell choir and was a leader in the Mission Circle.

As a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Garden Club and a member of the Thursday Club, she was active in the community and was named Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club in 2006.

She was a graduate of Westminster College and was a schoolteacher for 22 years in Ligonier, PA, Hollidaysburg, PA, Parma, OH and New Wilmington, PA.

Her parents, husband, Graham, and, son, Todd preceded her in death. She is survived by three children, Scott and his wife, Cindy of Plantation, FL, Chad and his wife, Vicki of Allen, TX, Lisa Whitt and her husband, Marc of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret of Leesburg, FL; and one brother, Dean and his wife, Jean of Dearborn, MI.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 3-6 PM at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 West Neshannock Avenue, New Wilmington, PA 16142. A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 11 AM at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, 229 South Market Street, New Wilmington, PA 16142. Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Camlin of new Wilmington Presbyterian church and Rev. Bill McCoy of First Presbyterian church, Charleston, WV will officiate. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster College in memory of Mary Louise Ireland.
