Molly Jean Agostino Obituary

Molly Jean Mentzer Agostino went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 2, 2019.

She was born to John "Jack" and Bessie Mentzer on March 12, 1935, and raised in the Castlewood area of Shenango Township. Lawrence County.

A 1953 graduate of Shenango High School, she often recalled her many fond memories of her school days and her fondness for Glenn "Pop" Johnson in his encouragement in getting her a quality Shenango education.

Molly was known as a hard worker her entire life. Her employment included being a clerk and elevator operator for Strouss-Hirshberg Department Store in New Castle, teller and accounts payable clerk at Lawrence Savings and Trust, a seamstress, she also cooked and did payroll for two family-owned restaurants in the Ellwood area, she was a banquet server for Troggio's Restaurant and lastly worked at Riggotti's Laundromat and Dry Cleaners.

Her most valued position in life was that of loving wife and mother to her family.

Molly was raised in the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church by her parents and at marriage converted to Catholicism. She then attended and raised her children at BVM in Ellwood City. After more than 30 years, she revisited the church of her youth, Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, and through a series of Lenten teachings made Christ the Lord of her life and this brought her peace, joy, greater love and a complete change in her life. She later attended Victory Christian Center in Ohio, where she served in the nursery, prayer team, enjoyed Bible study and grew in her faith walk.

Besides her Faith in Christ, her passions included Italian cooking, birdwatching, oil painting, flower arrangement, gardening, reading, going hiking with her family, bus tours, travel with family and friends, and fellowship with friends at Sparklers and Prime Timers.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Russell, Jack and James Mentzer.

She is survived by her greatest joys in lifw - her son, Joseph Agostino and daughter Tonya (William) Baker. Also surviving are her sisters, Patricia (Richard) Carnahan and Barbara (Joseph) Tartaglione; sisters-in-law, Billie Jo Mentzer and Shirl Mentzer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A private service will be held by the family at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, 941 S. Main St., with Pastor Carolyn Moss of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
