Plain Grove Township, PA - Nancy Jane Dayton, 92, of Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, passed away at The Grove in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, following a short illness.

She was born April 11, 1933, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to Milton Lawrence McLain and Edna Mae Blyston McLain.

She married Edward L. Dayton on Aug. 26, 1972. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2002.

She was a homemaker most of her life and greatly enjoyed family and friends and her volunteer work at Grove City Medical Center.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Russell) Davis of Plymouth, North Carolina; son, Paul Hewitt of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two stepdaughters, Rose Smeltzer of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, and Bonnie Mailliard of Meadville, Pennsylvania; four stepsons, George Dayton of Monroeville, Edward Dayton of McKees Rocks, Ben Dayton and Paul Dayton, both of Meadville; brother, Robert McLain of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Barbara Sheri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock, with Rev. William Mumaw III, pastor of Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, presiding.

The family will receive friends from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock and from 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, until the time of service at the Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock.

The interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery.
