Patricia Ann (Myers) Pyles of Zelienople, formerly Darlington, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023, at Lutheran Passavant Senior Living Community.
She was the beloved wife of Robert Thomas Pyles, who passed away May 16, 2021, at the same facility.
She struggled with his absence the rest of her life, having been side by side for 70 years (married November 13, 1950).
She was born April 2, 1933, to Elfreida J. (Merz) Myers and Corbett Vance Myers. Her father was an engineer on the Pittsburgh Lake Erie Railroad until his retirement as well as a farmer in Darlington.
Patricia left school early to care for her mother at home in her decline from cancer and therefore was not able to graduate high school.
She was, however, valedictorian at her eighth-grade graduation and her favorite teacher was Miss Carrie Gatti.
Soon after her mother passed, she married Bob "so they could take care of each other" as they so often told the story. She resided on the family farm she was born to until retirement years when they moved to Ellwood City for a time before moving to the retirement community in Zelienople.
Pat was a proud traditional wife, staying at home raising children, a gorgeous garden and countless farm animals. She had particular pride in her Jersey cows and made fabulous products with their milk.
Every year she filled every canning jar she owned (a lot) for the winter. She was a great cook, which the neighborhood could attest, as she fed anyone who came through the door at any time.
There is a photo of her striding through a field carrying a hay bale in each hand, showing her strength and determination.
She did fine needlework and was a very good seamstress.
Pat was preceded in death by two children, Kirby Dale Pyles and Randall Gentry B Pyles; Randy's widow, Sharon (Berry) Pyles resides in Darlington.
Her surviving children are Kristina V. Pyles, married to Peter Sotos MD (Freeport) and Jeffrey C. Pyles, married to Joan Stahl Pyles (Pittsburgh).
She was preceded in death by brothers Gottlieb Norman (Bud) Myers, Gottlieb Theodore (Papa) Myers and George Robert Myers and is survived by a sister, Marie Arlene (Myers) Fry of Plant City, Florida.
She is also survived by grandchildren Marcel (Pyles) Nieten and Cassandra Sotos, with great-grandchildren Hailey, Hannah and Adeline, Marcel's children.
Her many surviving nieces and nephews are Virginia (Myers) Moore, Dale Myers, Elizabeth (Myers) Ewer, John Myers, Eugene Myers, Arlene Myers, Jennifer Closshey, Yvonne Fry and Harold Fry II
Her honorary children are Barbara (Weigel) Ward, Timothy Weigel, Jon Grey, Bob Mc Fetridge and Betty Brown. Her honorary grandchildren are Jason, Stephen and Carie Brown.
On her 90th birthday in 2023, friends and family gathered with Patricia for a celebratory lunch and shared many memories.
Burial will be at Sylvania Hills Cemetery at the Garden of Chimes Tower D 203 in New Brighton.
She will rest between Kirby and Bob and near her mother and father.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Marshall's Funeral Home in Ellwood City.
No services will be held.
Condolences address: 1320 Sarver Road, Freeport Pa 16229 or online at Marshallsfh.com.
