New Castle, PA - Philip (Ed) Ketzel, 86, of New Castle passed away the morning of March 17, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.

Ed was born Oct. 22, 1938, in New Castle to the late Philip W. and Marian E. Anderson Ketzel.

In 1961, Ed married his beloved wife, the former Ida Dunkerley. Ida preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1972.

In the early years, Ed worked for Zambelli Fireworks. He later worked for Preston & Williams General Contractors, Grafton Construction and Cleveland Asphalt.

He was very active in his church, Hoover Heights Christian Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as board member and treasurer. Ed was the church organist for over 50 years.

He also was a volunteer tax preparer with VITA Tax Program.

Ed is survived by three stepchildren, Suzanne Moss (John), Tom Walker (Linda) and Eileen Flick; son-in-law, Bill Floyd; one brother, Charles Ketzel (Lois); 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Marcie Hunt; his two stepsons, James Walker and Ted R. Walker; stepdaughter, Janie Floyd; his son-in-law, Lane Flick; and grandson, Caleb Flick.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, 941 S. Mill St. A funeral service will follow at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Ed's grandson, Pastor Russ VanNest, and Pastor David Werner of Hoover Heights CMA will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
