Ronald Thompson (Kay) Obituary
Bermuda Run, North Carolina - Ronald "Kay" Thompson died peacefully at the age of 95 on Jan. 25, 2026, in Bermuda Run, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Thompson and Vivian (née Groom) Thompson; his brother, Bill Thompson; and his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Lou (née Rocks) Thompson.
He is survived by his daughters, Laurie Merritt (Bob), Carolyn Ronan (Tim) and Molly Cole (Dave); nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Kay was born June 15, 1930, in Hooker, Pennsylvania, and was a 1953 graduate of Carnegie Mellon, where he studied architecture.
In 1955, he began his career at Eckles Architecture. He became president of the firm in 1986 and retired in 2005 after 50 years of dedicated service.
Outside of his professional life, Kay devoted himself to serving others. He served as president of several local organizations, including the Red Cross, YMCA, United Way and St. Camillus Parish Council, among many other roles.
Kay was a lifelong learner, but his greatest legacy was his devotion to Mary Lou, his deep love for his daughters and their families, and his reputation as a kind, trusted friend to all.
Because of his deep faith in Jesus, Kay was welcomed into heaven, hearing the words of his Savior: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, North Carolina.
