Ruth E. Anderson Rickard, 90, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in Jameson Hospital. Born on May 20, 1915, in Bessemer, she was a daughter of the late August and Anna Nord Anderson. She married Loy Rickard on April 28, 1954. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Rickard had been employed as a lab technician at Bessemer Cement for 35 years. A long-standing member of the First Covenant Church in Bessemer, she had served on the church board and had been a choir member. She was also a member of MONIGA and a life-member of the Sunday school. Mrs. Rickard was past president (1964-65) and member of the Bessemer Womans Club and the Mohawk Homemakers. Survivors include two brothers and one sister-in-law, August Jr. and Mary-Ann Anderson and Wilbur Anderson, all of Bessemer; one sister-in-law, Helen Anderson of Bessemer; 11 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen O'Neal, Ardith Anderson and Bernice Olsen, and brothers Barney Anderson, Fred Anderson and Donald Anderson. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at First Covenant Church. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in first Covenant Cemetery, Bessemer.
