Ruth I. Latsko Obituary

New Castle, PA - Ruth I. Latsko, 91, a lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Latsko was born May 10, 1935, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Hubert and Ruth (Gillespie) Cummings.

A 1953 graduate of New Castle High School, she also graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, earning her registered nurse certification.

Ruth retired from St. Francis Hospital, where she worked as a registered nurse for 35 years.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle — St. Mary's Church.

Ruth married the love of her life, Raymond Latsko, in 1957; he preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Latsko (Terry), Neshannock Township, and Michael Latsko (Donna), Cranberry Township; and four grandchildren, Rachel Latsko, Neshannock Township, Taryn Latsko Roche (Fran), Lexington, Kentucky, Karina Latsko, Pittsburgh, and Devin Latsko, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents and spouse, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Joan Latsko; a son, James Latsko; and a brother, Don Cummings.

Ruth's faith served as a foundation for the care and service she showed others throughout her life, as a wife, mother, godmother, grandmother, aunt, sister, nurse and friend.

To many who knew her, Ruth felt like a "mom" or "grandma," always eager to prepare a home-cooked meal for neighborhood kids or help fellow residents choose their meals at The Addison of Clen-Moore Place.

Ruth's dining table and room at Clen-Moore became a favorite gathering place for residents and caregivers — much like her home had long been the center of holidays, coffee chats and bedtime stories.

Her patience and sage advice will continue to serve her family and friends, as Ruth surely will be a guardian angel to many in Heaven.

To honor Ruth's passion for the care of victims of violence or abuse, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Arise in place of flowers. Gifts may be made at ariselc.org/donate.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning in Holy Spirit Parish — St. Mary's Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Ben Barr, as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Union Township.
