Volant - Sheila M. Litzenberg, 64, of Volant, Pennsylvania, was reunited with the merciful Christ on March 16, 2026.

Born Jan. 3, 1962, in Tampa, Florida, to Richard and Mary Peoples, the family eventually settled in Volant to start Mapleview Ranch.

Sheila graduated from Wilmington High School in 1980, then graduated from Clarion University and began her career at Liberty Mutual Insurance, rising to senior financial analyst.

She met John Litzenberg while at her sister's wedding, and the two later married at Plain Grove Presbyterian Church in 1993. After buying their forever home, they welcomed daughter, Marissa, and sons, Jack and Bryce.

Sheila was a tireless supporter of her children and family. She volunteered on multiple booster boards at New Wilmington, drove her children all over creation to events and sports, and provided unwavering support for them to grow and follow their dreams.

Her husband, John, said she was the smartest woman on Earth and she was patient and thoughtful in helping her children navigate life's challenges. Her faith was her guiding force; she believed God to be loving and merciful to all, and her actions reflected these beliefs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard C. and Mary Louise Peoples.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Litzenberg; and her children, Marissa (Dave) Litzenberg Tamulonis of Erie, Jack Litzenberg of Pittsburgh and G. Bryce Litzenberg of Volant; as well as siblings, Richard (Jane) Peoples of Grove City, Eric (Linda) Peoples of Volant, Marc (Susanna) Peoples of Volant, Jeanne Peoples of Denver, Colorado, and Joan (Greg) Rudzik of Waterford, Michigan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, at Neshannock Presbyterian Church, 330 W. Neshannock Ave. The Rev. William H. Stone will officiate.

Sheila was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan and, in lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts be sent to the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
