Edinburg, PA - Shirley Jean Garrett, age 76, of Edinburg, Pennsylvania, passed away the morning of Oct. 1, 2025, surrounded by her family at Addison Healthcare Center in Masury, Ohio.

Born Nov. 15, 1948, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Robert W. Garrett and Ruth Edith (Masters) Bowen, and stepdaughter of Thelma Garrett.

A 1967 graduate of New Castle High School, Shirley furthered her education at Youngstown State University, graduating in 1974.

After graduation she gained employment with Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh from 1974-1984, working as a supervisor for several of those years. She then became a buyer for Phar-Mor/Tamco from 1984-1992. Shirley worked from 1992-2002 at Travco Sales and Marketing & Travco, until her retirement.

Among her many interests, she enjoyed cooking and gardening, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. What she loved most was spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her life partner, William R. Dougherty of Edinburg; one sister, Linda Lee (Larry) Hogue of New Castle; several nieces and nephews, Blythe (Tim) Zimmerman, Stacey (Mark) Basinger, Michelle Garrett, Barbara Best and Luke Hogue; one aunt, Marian Nelson; several cousins; one great-niece, Reese Zimmerman; two great-nephews, Austin (Jazmine) and Gage Basinger; and William (Gina) Dougherty Jr.

In addition to her parents and her stepmother, she was preceded in death by one brother, William W. Garrett; infant nephew, Lance Hogue; nephew, Travis Garrett; and several aunt and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
