New Castle - Stephen D. Mitchell, 55, of New Castle, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at UPMC Jameson in New Castle.

He was born on May 14, 1971, in New Castle, a son of the late Morris and Essie (Hicks) Mitchell Sr.

Steve worked at UPMC Jameson Hospital as the supervisor of janitorial services.

He loved golfing, fishing and above all, spending time with his family, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by seven children, Stephen D. Mitchell Jr. (Cassandra Rozzi), Marquette Mitchell, Thaemon Mitchell, Mekhi Mitchell, Nigan Mitchell, Maiorie Baxter-Mitchell and Avelynn Baxter; two grandchildren, Kyler Scott Mitchell and Stephen D. Mitchell III; two brothers, Morris Mitchell Jr. and Edward Mitchell; and one sister, Tiffaney Gish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Mangino.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. A funeral service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Pastor Alonzo Waters will officiate.
