Tennie Jane (Hietsch) Slater, 98, of New Castle passed away March 26, 2025.

Born Jan. 21, 1927, Tennie was the daughter of the late Martin and Ann Hietsch.

Tennie was married to Willis (Woody) Slater for 69 years. He preceded her in death Nov. 29, 2017.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She also volunteered for several years as the church secretary. She was among the first group of women to serve as an usher during the church service. She assisted her husband as record keeper during his term as the church treasurer.

She volunteered for the American Red Cross at the Jameson Memorial Hospital for 30 years.

Tennie is survived by her six children, Craig M. {Charlene) Slater, Timothy D. Slater, Carole L. (Frank) Sheen, Thomas L. (Connie) Slater, Ryne R. (Janie) Slater and Patti A. (John) Nickum.

She is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, June. and two brothers, Richard and Ronald.

A private service will be held at a later date.
