Virginia Rye Offutt, 96, of Pine Brook Lane, New Wilmington, Pa., died at UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle, on Thursday afternoon, April 20, 2017.

Born in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George Neil Anderson Rye and Gertrude Thomas Rye.

Mrs. Offutt married William James Offutt Jr. on July 25, 1942, and he preceded her in death Dec. 13, 2004.

Mrs. Offutt graduated from Westminster College and did graduate work at Carnegie Tech, now known at Carnegie Mellon University. She was a member of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, the Tuesday Afternoon Garden Club, and formerly served on the board of the Almira Home in New Castle, Pa.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy O. McGill and husband Kim of Oakton, Va.; a son, Michael Offutt and wife Jerri of New Wilmington; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, Pa., on Monday from 2 p.m. until the service at 3 p.m. Her grandson, Nathan B. Offutt, and the Rev. Dr. Joseph Hopkins, a close friend of the family, will officiate.

Interment will follow.
