Walter L. McCollums Obituary

Walter L. McCollums, 89, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at Quality of Life Services of New Castle.

Born June 12, 1929, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Joseph and Minerva Fleeger McCollums.

On April 6, 1951, he married his beloved wife, the former Mabel Darwin, who preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2016.

Walter was a veteran of the Navy.

Walter had previously worked for The Crane Company and then Blair Strip Steel, where he retired in 1992.

He was a charter member of Shenango Christian Church.

Walter enjoyed hunting and will be remembered as a helpful guy, always wanting to lend a hand.

Walter is survived by his children, Raymond McCollums of New Castle, Dennis McCollums of Maryland and Gary McCollums of New Castle; three daughters, Janet Peterson of New Castle, Karen Rahimi of Florida and Deborah Parks of Ohio; his sister, Minerva Miller of Tennesee; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was preceded in death by his son, Alan McCollums; two brothers, Joseph and Calvin McCollums; and a sister, Ella Mae Stewart.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St., followed by a service held at noon, officiated by Pastor Tim Erwin.

Entombment will take place in Castle View Mausoleum.
