New Castle - William "Billy" Humphrey, 65, of Mabel Street, died Saturday, March 21, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born April 20, 1960, in New Castle, a son of the late William J. and Lillian (Petrilli) Humphrey.
Billy married Karen M. (Kusinski) Humphrey on July 30, 1988. She survives at home.
He was a civil engineer, working for Frank B. Taylor Engineering for 38 years.
Billy was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, where he volunteered for the food pantry and served the parish in other capacities.
Billy was a high school and collegiate athlete and is to be inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame on April 26, 2026. "Coach Hump" was also an assistant coach for New Castle football for over 30 years, and basketball from 2011 to present, where he was a mentor to many young men. Coach Hump bled red and black and was a Hurricane through and through. Above all, he loved and was very devoted to God, his family, his friends and serving the New Castle community.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three sons, William A. Humphrey of New Castle, Anthony M. Humphrey and his wife, Christina, of Houston, Texas, and James R. Humphrey and his fiancée, Allyson Jamison, of New Castle; one granddaughter, Lila Humphrey; two brothers, Thomas Humphrey and his wife, Helen, of Elon, North Carolina, and Richard "Ripper" Humphrey of New Castle; one sister, Cecelia Yauger and her husband, Michael, of Grove City; two sisters-in-law, Jean Gaydos of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Diane Petrarca and her husband, David, of Swissvale, Pennsylvania; two brothers-in-law, David Miles and his wife, Joy, of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard Miles and his wife, Brenda, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Miles; and father-in-law, Robert Miles.
Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. A Rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Holy Spirit Parish - St. Vitus Church. Father Aaron Kriss will officiate. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m.
